Fandom / Con Interpreting and Coordinating

Mindy Lanie cut her Con interpreting teeth on the largest Con in the world -- San Diego Comic Con, where she was part of the interpreting team from 1999 -- 2003, interpreting photo ops, autograph sessions, featured guest panels, and Masquerades. (You may have heard of cos-play - Masquerades are amazing costume (cos-play) competitions, for those who want to participate.)

Her move to Washington, DC, to be a staff interpreter for Congress, meant a break in interpreting for Cons. However, the stars aligned, and in 2010, Mindy joined the interpreting team for Shore Leave, then Farpoint, and (Re)Generation Who.

In 2011, Mindy Lanie incorporated as Lanie Sign Language Services, Inc. And after years of coordinating interpreters for small, non-Fandom conferences, 2016 brought the opportunity to coordinate interpreting services for Awesome Con and Baltimore Comic Con. Mindy successfully brought together a team of geeky, nerdy, comic book collecting, sci-fi loving, and science loving interpreters to provide a rich experience for attendees for both Cons.

Testimonials from interpreters and attendees can be found here.

Choose Lanie Sign Language Services for your Con interpreting needs, and be assured that attendees needing ASL access will enjoy a full Con experience. Lanie Sign Language Services can also work with your Con to provide Real-time Captioning, and consulting on other accessibility services.
